All around the world you will find this idea, the term for it is ‘glamping’. It means you can mix the wild with glamourise living. This will include things like beautiful gourmet meals, hot showers in inside your fully furnished tent, a designer lounge overlooking the surroundings and most probably a health spa. Camping has now gone 5 star. It is all about the comfort and luxury while still taking in the fresh air.
Where did it start?
Glamping started many years ago in Africa, when safari camps wanted to add a new experience for those wanting a luxury camping holiday. While glamping you can stay in a tent that has Persian carpets, feather duvets and delicious hand creams. The experience also includes food being served and massages just outside your tent while being amongst wild animals and views to die for. Now glamping is making its way across the world with celebrities all enjoying this new idea. In the United States they have even made glamping resorts that cost as much as a five star hotel.

Glamping is a great way to experience the best part of the outdoors without all the hassle that camping usually brings. By glamping in a great area, it also means there is going to be more activities that will be prepared for you, with a guide to take you through it.
The best part of glamping is that everything is already set out for you; you do not have to take blow up mattresses, tents, bedding etc. This saves a lot of time and hassle.
Some people see glamping as also bringing your own luxury equipment. This means you can travel to different places each year and save a lot of money while still having a luxurious stay. Perhaps this is a good idea for the husband and wife who need to compromise on the outdoor experience. Many companies are now catering for luxury camping equipment, including designer camping gear.
The different types
Glamping can come in four different styles; it all depends on the area that you choose to stay.
- A Yurt
The yurt is a proper tent that is a lot taller, bigger and sturdier than a normal one you buy from a camping shop. A yurt is already fitted with everything you need inside.
- A Tree House
This is a unique experience, where a small house is built between the branches of a big tree. It is luxurious and you only need to bring your clothes.
- Safari Tent
This is a tent built upon a small platform that is fitted with luxurious camping items.
- A Motor Home
A motor home is designed like a small bus with living quarters behind the driver’s seat.
